We All Crave Creamy

There’s something about creamy pasta that just does it. It’s soft. Warm. Satisfying. It wraps itself around the noodles and holds on, coating every bite in comfort.
And maybe that’s why I find myself making it on the nights that feel the most stretched. When bedtime is dragging, the whining won’t quit, and I’m touched-out and worn thin. I don’t always have the energy to get fancy in the kitchen—but I still want something that feels good. That brings comfort. That fills more than just a stomach.
We all crave creamy.
Not just the flavor—but the feeling.
The feeling of being wrapped in something warm.
The feeling of ease.
Of being held.
My child feels it when he takes that first bite and goes silent (which, let’s be honest, is also a blessing). My husband feels it when he walks in from a long day and smells dinner already made.
And me?
I feel it when I serve a meal that doesn’t just feed my family—but settles me, too.
Creamy pasta becomes more than dinner.
It becomes a tiny act of softness in a day that was anything but soft.
Because motherhood can feel rough. It can be loud and sharp and constant. We’re pulled in a hundred directions. And in the middle of it all, sometimes we forget that we are allowed to crave comfort too.
So when I stir that sauce—slow, steady, letting it thicken—I remind myself:
I deserve this too.
Not just to give it, but to receive it.
Maybe that’s the real beauty of a dish like this. It doesn’t just stick to the noodles.
It sticks to the moment.
To the memory.
To the part of us that just wants a little softness in a world that often asks us to be hard.
So yeah.
Tonight we’re having creamy pasta.
Because we all crave creamy.
And some nights, that’s reason enough.
CREAMY PENNE PASTA
Ingredients:
-1 box penne pasta
-1 small onion
-2 tbsp avocado oil
-2 tbsp flour
-3-4 cups milk
-1 1/2 cup shredded cheese (cheddar/mozzarella blend)
-2 tbsp pasta water
-1 tsp salt
-1 tsp salt
-1 tsp granulated garlic
Directions:
Cook pasta according to box instructions (I prefer al dente).
Dice the onion and place it in a frying pan with the avocado oil. Sauté on medium heat for about 7 minutes until onions become tender.
Add in the flour and stir it in evenly. It will become paste-like.
Immediately add in the 3 1/2 cups of milk. Slowly stir until the sauce starts to thicken.
Add in the shredded cheese and keep stirring making sure cheese melts into the sauce evenly.
Add in rest of milk if sauce gets too thick. Add in the pasta water too.
Place all spices in the sauce and mix evenly.
Turn off flame and pour the sauce over the cooked pasta.
Serve with a fresh salad. Enjoy! <3
